Seems Death’s a-come for Effie Burl. She drunk herself under with liquor. T’wasn’t normal corn liquor neither, seein’ how it somehow got stirred up with a longforgotten eagle spirit. Anyhow, when the reaper come, Ossie—that’s Effie’s betrothed—begun singing a folk tune known ’round here to bring back the dyin’. Some fine singin’ too, if I say so myself.
